At a glance
Equestrian Singles is one of the oldest names in horse dating. Horsey Lover UK is a newer site built specifically for British riders. Both put horses at the centre, but they come from different riding cultures, and that shapes almost everything about how they feel.

UK focus versus worldwide
Equestrian Singles presents itself as a global community for horse lovers. Its home page describes people looking for roping partners, sharing a love of rodeo and pursuing disciplines from polo and dressage to cutting, reining and cowboy mounted shooting. The language and imagery feel distinctly American: cowboys, cowgirls, ranches and country singles.
That international reach can be appealing. If you travel, have links to North America or simply enjoy the idea of a worldwide horse community, a global site has a certain charm.
For most UK riders, though, a partner needs to be within driving distance of home and yard. A worldwide site may have plenty of members, but what matters is how many live near you and share your kind of riding. Horsey Lover UK serves Britain only. A profile that turns up in your search belongs to someone on this side of the Atlantic, and the reading around it, from livery advice to county guides, assumes a British yard.
English disciplines versus western framing
Riding cultures differ more than people outside the horse world realise. A British eventer, a hunting enthusiast or a Pony Club parent may share a love of horses with an American team roper, but their weekends, vocabulary and kit look very different.
Equestrian Singles lists a wide range of disciplines, which is to its credit, but its emphasis leans towards western riding and ranch life. If you ride western in the UK, that may feel like home. If you spend your weekends at British Eventing fixtures, local dressage, hunter trials or point-to-points, you may find the overlap thinner.
Horsey Lover UK speaks the language of British yards: livery, hacking, numnahs, rugs, the farrier's round and the point-to-point season. Our county guides focus on places like Newmarket, Cheshire and North Yorkshire, and our date ideas include beach rides, racedays and county shows across Britain.
Prices in pounds versus dollars
Our own figures sit on the pricing page in sterling. A single week of VIP is £14.99 and a single week of VIP Plus is £15.99. A year of VIP Plus at £208.05, like a year of VIP at £119.88, simply lapses at the end. The shorter lengths in between do roll over until you stop them.
Equestrian Singles shows its own prices on its site and in its app. Its app store listing quotes figures in US dollars. UK members paying in dollars may see their bank convert the charge and possibly add a fee, so check the final cost in pounds with your card provider before subscribing.
What Equestrian Singles does well
Longevity. A site that has been running since 2001, by its own account, has clearly found an audience and kept it.
Breadth of disciplines. Its list covers an unusually wide range of horse activities, from racing and polo to endurance and breeding, alongside its western core.
A strong identity. For people who love western and ranch culture, its branding and language are immediately welcoming.
Mobile app. It offers a dedicated app as well as a website.
Where a UK site may fit better
Signs that a British horse-first site could fit you better:
- you want matches who could plausibly meet you for a Sunday hack, not a transatlantic video call;
- you ride English disciplines or follow British racing;
- you want prices shown in pounds;
- you value guides and county pages written for British riders;
- you prefer a site whose culture reflects British yards rather than American ranches.
Who each suits
Equestrian Singles makes sense if you ride western, love rodeo or ranch life, enjoy an international community or have links to North America.
Horsey Lover UK makes sense if your horse lives in a British field, your weekends follow the British fixture list and you would like someone close by who already knows what a hunter trial is.
Distance matters more than numbers
A large worldwide site can sound impressive, but the only profiles that matter are those within reach of your home and yard. Before committing to any site, look at who is near you. Ask whether they ride the way you do, whether you could realistically meet for a midweek drink and whether their week would fit alongside yours.
Safety wherever you meet
International sites can attract scammers who claim to be overseas, working away or temporarily unable to meet. Be cautious of anyone who cannot video call, avoids specific questions about their horse or yard, or asks for money for travel, vet bills or a horse purchase. Our safety guide explains common scams in detail.
What a UK rider's weekend looks like, and why it matters
Picture a typical Saturday for a British amateur rider in spring. An early start to plait, a short drive in a borrowed trailer to a local riding club dressage competition, two tests in a field arena with a cold wind off the downs, a cup of tea from a horsebox café and home in time to poo-pick before dark. Sunday might bring a long hack with friends, finishing at a pub that has a rail to tie up to.
Now picture the same day for a western rider in Texas or Montana: a team roping jackpot, a ranch sorting clinic or a long trail ride across open range. Both days are full of horses and both riders would understand each other's devotion. But their kit, their vocabulary, their calendar and the people they meet along the way are very different.
A dating site tends to attract people who see themselves in its pictures and words. If those pictures show rodeo arenas and ranch gates, the site will feel like home to western riders. If they show livery yards, drystone walls and county showgrounds, it will feel like home to British riders. Neither is wrong; it is simply worth knowing which audience a site speaks to before you invest time in it.
Questions to ask before choosing
- How many profiles appear within an hour of my yard?
- Do the people I see ride the way I do, or at least understand it?
- Are prices shown in a currency I can budget for without conversion surprises?
- Does the site's advice on safety and dating reflect life in the UK?
- Would I feel comfortable describing my British horse life here?
A note on western riding in the UK
Western riding has a dedicated following in Britain, with clubs, shows and trainers around the country. If that is your world, you are welcome on Horsey Lover UK too; say so on your profile, and you may find fellow western riders, or English riders curious to try it. The site is for UK horse people of every discipline.
The bottom line
Equestrian Singles is a long-running horse dating site with a worldwide reach and a strong western character. Horsey Lover UK is built for British riders, with a UK focus, British riding culture and prices in pounds. For a rider who wants romance within driving distance of the yard, we believe a home-grown site makes more sense.
